ABB Receives ENA Approval For Five Of Its Relion Series Protection And Control Relays

ABB relionFive of ABB’s sophisticated Relion series substation automation protection and control relays have now been assessed by the Energy Networks Association (ENA) for deployment on the UK’s utility and industrial power networks

ABB has further extended the assessment by the Energy Networks Association (ENA) of its growing Relion series of IEC 61850 protection and control relays for use in substation projects on the UK’s utility and industrial power networks.

Notice of conformity (NOC) certificates have just been issued for the REF620 and REF630 feeder relays, RET620 and RET630 transformer relays and the RED615 differential protection and control relay.

The Relion series offers the widest range of products for the protection, control, measurement and supervision of power systems for IEC and ANSI applications. To ensure interoperable and future-proof solutions, Relion products implement the core values of the IEC 61850 standard.

The REF620 is a dedicated feeder management relay for utility and industrial power distribution systems, including radial, looped and meshed networks, with or without distributed power generation. It can be used in various single or double-busbar applications, with either one or two breakers and numerous switching devices.

The REF630 is designed to be the main protection for overhead lines and cable feeders, in either isolated neutral, resistance-earthed, compensated or effectively earthed distribution networks. It features distance protection, fault locator, overcurrent protection and extensive earth-fault protection with unique multifrequency admittance-based protection for higher sensitivity and selectivity.

The RET620 is a dedicated transformer management relay for both two-winding power and step-up transformers, including power generator-transformer blocks, in utility and industrial power distribution systems.

The RET630 is a comprehensive transformer management relay for power transformers, including step-up transformers, and power generator-transformer units in utility and industrial power distribution systems. RET630 is also ideal for transformer bay control.

The RED615 is a phase-segregated, two-end, line differential protection and control relay for overhead line and cable feeders. RED615 is also ideal for line differential applications with an in-zone transformer.

David Hughes, Director of Marketing and Sales for ABB’s Power Grids businesses in the UK, said: “Receiving this latest group of ENA approvals for our Relion products now enables ABB to deploy IEC 61850 compliant equipment on an even wider basis for substation automation projects across the UK. It is another important step towards the digitalization of power transmission and distribution networks based on advanced protection and control and communication technologies.”
