Surge Protection for Measurement and Control Systems
Measurement and control systems are vulnerable to transient surges and therefore require robust lightning and surge protection to avoid plant outages.

The new varistor-based lightning arresters VAL-MS-T1/T2 from Phoenix Contact have been specifically designed to address the requirements BS 62305 of lightning protection classes III and IV. All poles of the pluggable arrester blocks can be tested with the Checkmaster test unit.
The Powertrab PWT lightning arrester from Phoenix Contact protects three-phase industrial power supplies up to 554/960 V AC against damage caused by surge voltages.
Phoenix Contact’s FLT-CP-PLUS protectors are compact, application-oriented lighting protectors of EN type 1. Suitable installation blocks are available for all established applications.
The VAL-CP-MCB arrester, a combination of arrester backup fuse function and type 2 surge voltage arrester, is the only real choice when it comes to backup fuses for surge voltage protection.
Phoenix Contact’s VAL-CP-MOSO60 arrester combination is a surge voltage protection solution that is suitable for 60-mm system technology. No tools are required to snap the arrester directly onto the busbar system. Thanks to a universal adapter, the product is suitable for all 5-mm and 10-mm busbars regardless of their design.
The VAL-MS 1000DC/2+F... surge arresters protect photovoltaic systems up to 1000 V. They are particularly suitable for use in large systems. The arresters can be used in both isolated and midpoint grounded systems thanks to their low protection level.
Installation of PV arrays at roof level, and the siting of solar parks in open, exposed locations, makes PV systems susceptible to damage from partial lightning currents.
Furse a world leader in earthing & lightning protection will be exhibiting their renowned product portfolio at the forthcoming Offshore Europe Oil & Gas Exhibition at Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre from 6-8 September 2011.
British Standard BS EN 62305 Protection Against Lightning parts 1, 3 and 4 have been updated.
